What we do!

Weston Whippets Running Club offers led runs and coached sessions to all aged 4 and over who wish to benefit from running. We offer varied sessions each week and all of our sessions are led by an EA qualified Coach or Run Leader. We also offer the EA funetics programme to athletes aged 4 - 12 years.

Weston Whippets have funded a large number of members to gain their LIRF (run leader) or CiRF (coach) to ensure that we are delivering a brilliant variation of sessions and courses. All of our qualified volunteers are DBS certified and hold a Safeguarding certificate. A number of our volunteers are First Aid trained and carry their team kit on each club run.

All of our adult runs are bookable on our Run Together page.

Development and Progression (DaPs) - Monday 7.30pm

Our DaPs sessions are led by our LiRF, Amy and her team.

At these sessions, our team deliver an 8 week rota built by our CiRF, Leanne. The sessions are designed to support all of our runners to develop and progress their running using varied training. The sessions include interval training, tempo runs, hill work and heart rate runs amongst others.

All of these sessions are designed to help the runner to achieve their running goals. These sessions are suitable for all who can run 5k and over.

Trail - Tuesday 7pm

Our Tuesday sessions are led by our LiRF, Char and her team.

At these sessions, our team work on an 8 week rota meeting at various locations across Weston and beyond to deliver a great set of off road runs over shorter distances (under 10k). These runs include runs on the flat, hills, woodland, fields and sometimes sand! Our winter runs are often wet and muddy with lots of fun and in the Summer we enjoy the beauty of the surrounding views. These sessions are suitable for all who can run 5k and over.

Social - Thursday 7pm

Our Social sessions are led by our LiRF, Sarah and her team.

These sessions meet at 4 different pubs over an 8 week rota. Sarah and her team offer 5k road runs where you can run at any pace you wish (within reason - we run in minimum of pairs) and then they meet back at the pub for a drink and chat. This is a no pressure run and the team offer friendly support for our less confident runners. These sessions are suitable for all who can run 5k.

Long Road - Saturday 8am

Our Saturday sessions are delivered by our LiRF, Kirsty and her team.

These sessions meet every Saturday morning for longer distances on road and they work on an 8 week rota. The team offers various distances of 5 miles and over to support runners who want that little bit more running distance. The routes vary in distance each week and include hill work, flat endurance and also parkrun once every 8 weeks too. These sessions are suitable for all who can comfortably run over 10k.

Long Trail - Sunday 8.30am

Our Sunday sessions are delivered by our CiRF, Russell and his team.

These sessions run every Sunday morning and focus on building distance over their 8 week rota. The team meet in various locations across North Somerset to offer a beautiful set of trail runs taking in our wonderful countryside views. The team offers distance over 10k on most runs, but there is usually the chance to run shorter distances of around 5k too.

funetics - Saturday 9am

Our funetics teams are led by Leanne, who is a L2 Athletics Coach, funetics Coach and Club CiRF.

Leanne and her team deliver 14 week courses to children aged 4 to 12 years. The courses are built by England Athletics and are delivered by our EA funetics trained team. All hold current DBS and safeguarding certificates.

The funetics courses encourage our smaller athletes to have fun while being active. We deliver structured sessions working on the fundamentals of athletics: Run, Jump and Throw using the A, B, C's (agility, balance and coordination). These sessions are fun and support the children to build their confidence in sport, supporting their ability and understanding as they go.

Youth Team - Wednesday 6.30pm and Saturday 9am

Our Youth Team is led by Shelley, who is a funetics Coach and Club CiRF.

Shelley and her team offer coached sessions to all aged 12 to 18 years on a Wednesday and Saturday during term time. The team work on 2 separate 8 week rotas for each day.

Wednesday is our run session. We offer varied runs including endurance, hill work, trail and sprints.

Saturday is our strength session. We offer physical preparation, food and nutrition, circuits and progression. These support our athletes to become stronger runners.
